Why I’m No Longer Relying on Inspiration Pics for Bridal Bouquets

Nicole Van Diver

Flowers are more than just a beautiful accessory (and something to do with your hands...) on your wedding day—they are powerful conduits for emotion. Flowers have the ability to transform a space, evoke memories, and connect us to meaningful experiences. This is why flowers hold such an essential role in weddings, particularly in the creation of bridal bouquets. That is why I am no longer relying on inspiration pics for my bridal bouquets and here's three reasons why.

  1. Flowers = Feelings

We surround ourselves with flowers because they make us feel something.

We love seeing them in a vase on the kitchen table, growing wild in nature, or thoughtfully arranged in a stunning bouquet. Flowers tap into our emotions, and that’s why their meaning and presence matter so much on a day as important as your wedding.

As a florist, my top priority is to capture and amplify the emotion of the day through flowers. Bridal bouquets should tell a story—your story—and bring beauty that resonates with your unique celebration.

  1. The Average Person Simply Lacks the Wide Variety of Flower Knowledge

This is especially true when it comes to the rare and exotic tropical blooms we have access to in Hawaii.

Most people are familiar with baby’s breath, white roses, and maybe a sunflower or two. But how many have ever seen or heard of a mink protea? What about using burgundy fern heads to add a creative twist? And then there’s the ultra-rare white torch ginger, a true showstopper.

There is a world of floral options beyond the standard choices often found on Pinterest boards. As your florist, it’s my job to introduce you to this wider spectrum and use these unique blooms to create something unforgettable.

  1. Your Bouquet Should Reflect YOU

Personalization is at the heart of everything I do.

I don’t want to simply replicate a bouquet from an inspiration photo. Instead, I want you to be the inspiration—the bouquet that others will want to pin and recreate.

To achieve this, I’ve shifted my approach from asking for inspiration pictures to digging deeper into who you are and what your love story represents.

Moving Beyond Pinterest: The Power of Personalization

In the past, I would spend time scrolling through your Instagram feed, searching for clues about your personality, style, and preferences. While this approach worked to some degree, I realized I needed a more intentional and structured process to truly capture your vision.

That’s when I borrowed an idea from my officiant business (Oahu Officiant) where I’ve crafted hundreds of unique ceremony scripts—a questionnaire.

This gives me the parameters of what you want, what you don't want, and allows me to create a bridal bouquet that is uniquely YOU.

Introducing the Bridal Bouquet Questionnaire

For all my upcoming bridal clients, I’ll be sending a comprehensive questionnaire. This personalized tool will help me gather insights about your style, preferences, favorite colors, and even the emotions you want your bouquet to evoke.

Questions include:

  • What colors make you feel happiest?

  • Are there specific flowers that hold sentimental value for you?

  • What mood or vibe do you want your bouquet to convey?

By understanding your unique story and preferences, I can create a bouquet that not only looks stunning but feels deeply personal and meaningful.

The Result of Customization: Bouquets as Unique as Your Love Story

Flowers have the power to enhance the emotional experience of your wedding day. By moving away from generic inspiration photos and focusing on personalization, I can craft bouquets that truly reflect you—your personality, your love, and the joy of your special day.

Let’s create something extraordinary together, something that Pinterest hasn’t even imagined yet. Your bouquet will be the inspiration others seek, a symbol of love and beauty as unique as your journey.
